University Password

If you know your password ...

Change your password frequently, for security reasons - see our Dos and Don'ts of Passwords advice (pdf).

You should also set up (and you can update) your password security questions and answers (shared secrets). Doing this means that you are able to set yourself a new password if you forget your current one. (The security information you give may also be used to confirm your identity when you phone for IT Support).

If you have forgotten your password ...

There are 3 ways to set a new password if you have forgotten it:

  1. If you have previously set up password security questions and answers (shared secrets), you should use these to set a new password - see our Dos and Don'ts of Passwords advice (pdf).
  2. (Students only) - If you have forgotten your shared secrets you can request a 4-digit security code and have it sent by email to your personal email address or by txt message to your mobile phone. Then use this code, along with your UB number (found on your student card), to create a new password. This code will expire in 5 days.
  3. As a last resort, submit the form provided. A 4-digit security code will be emailed to you no later than the next working day. Use this code, along with your UB number (found on your student or staff card), to create a new password. This code will expire in 5 days.

Further help and advice

Occasionally, there are instances where some staff and some part-time or distance learner students will need to self register. Use the code you will have been given, along with your UB number (found on your staff or student card) to do this.
